One-of-a-kind Native American style flutes,
harvested and handmade in Utah

Why Branches?
A branch flute is the only instrument that was already a thing before it was an instrument. The limb grew, bent toward light, took its bark through a decade of winters, came down in a storm or got cut and stacked for a fire. It was going back into the ground. Now it plays.
Everything that makes it beautiful is also what makes it sound the way it does. The bore is whatever the tree made it. The bends, the grain, the density all have a say. Which means no two will ever sound the same, and none of them can be made twice, not by me, not by anyone.
Every flute at BranchFlutes.com is harvested, carved, voiced and tuned by hand. Many never make it out of the shop. The ones that do are signed, numbered, and the only one of their kind that will ever exist.
The Shop
Handmade in Utah
since the early 2000s
No flute leaves my shop unless I am satisfied with the voicing and the tuning.
First and foremost, a branch flute has to be a legitimate musical instrument.
Everything else comes second. Many never make the cut.
Sometimes the branches
fight back
Build from dimensional lumber and you get consistent results, same bore, same hole spacing, every single time. With a branch, every variable moves. One that looks like a simple build turns into a balancing act halfway through. Answer wrong, and the branch becomes firewood. Answer right, and the bend that nearly ruined it becomes the reason it’s beautiful.
